The idea of being there when she studying is just nice and he really should have done more on the commission than he has already.

So he decided to grab a mixture of things and asked Bar for something to eat and she provided him with a simple basket with snacks in it.

Once he was sure he hadn't forgotten anything, then he knocked.

Kait opens the door, smiling when she sees who it is. And also the food, but don't tell Sam that.

"Welcome to my home away from home," she says, letting the door swing open. Her room does have the look of a hotel room, but of a different style to Sam's. The furniture is subtly different, with more curves and intricate carvings. No fireplace, but the room is warm that Kait feels like she can wear clothes of normal weight. There is a large desk (with two chairs), and also an armchair and a couch arranged in front of the window. The bed, too, is lower, and in the same curved style as the rest of the furniture.

Its a very elegant room and Sam's suddenly aware of how his shirt is dirty because he forgot to put it in the laundry last night,

"What's keeping it so warm?"

"There is a temperature control panel there," she says pointing to a panel with a small display and a dial next to the door. "Makes it feel a bit more like home, anyway."

Despite that elegance, the room is a lived in one. And despite his shirt (if she really noticed) she reaches up and kisses him before putting the basket on the desk - a desk presently littered with books and pages. Which she does start to at least vaguely tidy up.

He kisses her back and considers the desk also he's good and doesn't go looking at the temperature control yet,

"You should set up how you like to work first so I don't take up too much space."

"Depends what you are doing. I can take up an entire room if I want to, and have."

"I was given a commission to make a dragon for a boy's birthday. I'm still figuring out how I want it to work so don't need too much space. And there's a reason they ended up giving me a tower room for my workshop since I'd start working wherever I could."

"...that sounds so very nice." And she means it, too. That was one of the things she missed from the country house, that tower. "There, half the desk enough?"

"Yes, thank you. It was a present for my sixteenth birthday though I think everyone ended up happy, because I'm out of the way."

There's a slight bitter note in his voice but it fades quickly as he lays out the parchment brought and various gears and things.

He gets a glance, slightly sympathetic (because she likes him) and slightly confused (she doesn't really know the context), but she doesn't ask.

"How big a dragon?" She asks, curling back onto her seat.

"Not too big."

He shows her about six inches or so and then the rough sketch he did for Felix, its a dragon on four legs that will move with a sort of crest.

"Magic or just joints? For moving, I mean?"

"Mainly joints, the magic will make sure it holds together better and he wants the boy to be able to call it. That's going to be a little trickier."

"Call-

I have no idea how you'd that. I think I had better stick to history."

"Most Charter spells are tied to a series of sounds like songs or whistles so it should be possible. I just need to make it something that a child can do."

"Good luck," she says, opening her book again.

"Thanks."

Once he starts writing and working as she reads time passes quickly. Its only when the things from the basket start to smell good that he looks over,

"Hungry?"

"Always."

Beat as she looks up.

"But I will admit to being particularly famished at the moment."

[makesthings]

"I haven't looked inside so I'm not sure what she gave us. Its closest to you."

Some of the gears are pushed to the side though there is something starting to appear in front of him.

"...this shall be interesting, then," Kait comments, closing her book and pushing it to the side before standing to peer in. And it is, at the same time as boringly normal. Some fruit and pastries (both meat and others, some kept warm in a container), as well as two glasses and a bottle of cordial.

When she opens it, he grins and leans over to snag a pastry,

"I didn't get a chance to get one of these during the Winter Festival."

His speed reminds her of her brothers, and she snorts softly with laughter as she grabs one for herselg.

"Too busy?"

A few years at a boarding school teach you to be quick and he was good at cricket and rugby,

"I had to dance the Bird of Dawning though I'm not sure you could call what I did dancing. At least the bruises are gone."

"The...Bird of Dawning?"

"There's this dance that happens during the festival, the proper performers are on stilts being all these Winter sprites. I dance through them in this horrible costume holding the Sprig of Spring."

"...oh." She bites into the pastry, trying to muffle a sudden smirk.
