The idea of being there when she studying is just nice and he really should have done more on the commission than he has already.

So he decided to grab a mixture of things and asked Bar for something to eat and she provided him with a simple basket with snacks in it.

Once he was sure he hadn't forgotten anything, then he knocked.

"The Great Charter Stones were also broken, we're still fixing them."

"Oh. No, that wouldn't help, either." She looks sympathetic.

"They can be fixed though. Its just that Father doesn't remember a lot of things. If you want I could tell you what happened, its just not a terribly nice part of our history."

"Would you want to tell me?" She asks, grabbing another pastry.

He picks apart the pastry he has as he's thinking,

"You like to know how places work and this is part of why things are a lot the way they are in the Old Kingdom."

A quick, wry smile.

"Yes. It is one of the flaws of an apprentice diplomat. But that is not what I asked. There are parts of my history, and my Family's history, that I am not comfortable with talking about several hours before I sleep. So, would you want to tell me? Now?"

It's a way out, if he wants to take it. Even with the curiosity in her eyes, it is a way out.

The pastry's now in small pieces as he looks at her,

"I think I can tell it and not suffer for my sleep. The worst part of it is having to go down to the reservoir to help fix the Great Charter Stones."

"How do you that? And why did they break?"

"Two hundred or so years ago, my father's brother became a necromancer. A lot of how and why isn't known at this point, but he did. He came to the palace and with his mother and sisters went down to the reservoir where the Great Charters Stones are. He slit their throats over the stones since blood can break them and mend them. After that the Old Kingdom suffered badly. About twenty years ago, my mother was finally able to defeat what was left of him and since then we've been restoring the stones."

"He killed his own mother? And his sisters?"

"Yes and made my father a figurehead and put a spell around the city so he wouldn't remember who he was."

He's gone pale and quiet since he knows that he could never do what his mother did again Kerrigor, but he'll have to.

Kait reaches out across the table, offering her hand.

Her hand is warm and he squeezes it tightly,

"Things are better, it just takes time."

"I know. History student, remember?"

He smiles and leans over that tiny bit more to kiss her on the lips,

"I know, that's why I told you."

Both his word and the kiss get a wide smile.

"How is the dragon?"

"Coming along. I don't want it to go too fast or too slow so I'm trying to find a way to make the legs work that I like."

"How fast do you want it? Walking, or slower?"

"Its for a pretty young boy so I don't want it to be too fast. So if I could find a good walking pace, that would work best."

"How old?"

"Four so it shouldn't be too complicated."

"I'll pay attention when I go back home to my younger cousins and see how fast they can manage."

"Thanks. I've never really made anything for someone that small before."

"Really? I would have thought...or do you do smaller things, like with jewelery and the frog?"

"I do all sorts of things but I don't really share them that much. I've made things for my sister sometimes and my friends. Most people don't really know what to do with them."
