A Day with Kait

[makesthings]

Sameth's never made a cabinet before, but he doesn't think that should be a problem. After all there are a lot of things that he's never made.

Bar at least was willing to get him some big sheets of steel to start with and he's just inside the forge using them to build the outer structure.

Its not yet noon, but its hot work so he took off his shirt early in the day and is partly visible behind the metal to anyone who enters the forge.

Kait? Never objects to Samet's skin. Never, ever ever.

Still...

"Are you building a boat?" She asks him, curiously, from her position in the forge's door.

"No, a cabinet,"

He sets down the metal that's becoming a box and grins at her. So far this is not a really interesting project.

"A cabinet."

Beat.

"That you could turn into a metal boat?"

[makesthings]

"A very small boat that would sink. I think to make metal work as a boat, you need to do things to it,"

Its not a huge box just the size of decent sized cabinet as he walks around it to her,

"Can I hug you or am I too sweaty?"

She looks him over idly, and then looks down over her own clothes; a dress that shows sign of dirt and mud at the hem. The kind of dress she would wear when hoarding around crowds of cousins and nieces and nephews, which is exactly what she's being doing.

"I think I could allow a hug," she says, solemnly.

"Good,"

She looks beautiful and she's here so she gets hugged and kissed.

Mmm, she likes his kisses. He's much, much better skill-wise (yay practice), and it's...him.

So, she kisses him back.

"You could have a metal boat," she murmurs. "Just have to be like a ship."

[makesthings]

He laughs against her mouth,

"I'm not a shipwright, but I do know how to sail. Mm, we could even go swimming, there's a lake."

"Mm, cold. Ugh," and she shudders a bit. "There is an inlet, though."

[makesthings]

"And warm sand and afterwards, we can have warm soup and heated wine. I could try and catch some fish to eat,"

When she shudders, he rubs her arms, that kind of shuddering isn't good.

Kait pauses.

"With a line, net, or with your hands?"

[makesthings]

"I know how to do all of them. Which would you like to see me do?"

Belisaere is surrounded by the sea, he got a lot practice fishing growing up.

"I-" and here she hesitates. Her poise takes on a slight fight-or-flight air, that she isn't aware of. "Hands," she says, because she wants to see how her reflexes go.

And because she doesn't have to pretend to be slow around him.

"Then we'll do that,"

He squeezes her hand with a smile, fishing has always been one of his favorite things.

Its one of the things that his father really tried to make sure the entire family did when they could.

"How are you at cooking?"

[makesthings]

"I know how to gut and cook fish simply. I haven't burned anything I've cooked since I was thirteen,"

Anything fancy and he'll have to ask for help.

Kait grins.

"That works for me just fine."

No having to negoiate herbs and spices and attempts at impressing the palate.

[makesthings]

He loves her grins and kisses her, "Perfect, come on,"

The forge isn't too far from the lake or the inlet and he's looking forward to some cold water.

"I can distract you from your cabinet?"

[makesthings]

"Yes, I'm not sure why she didn't ask me to just make a lock. So it can wait,"

He does a few things to close down the forge before heading outside.

Kait...is helpful, and just watches him.

(She'll blame the lack of shirt if asked)

"...who asked you and why?"

[makesthings]

His shirt is in the forge, he'll get it later for now to the lake,

"Mia Ausa, she wants a potion cabinet that her little son can't get into until he's old enough."

"Ooh, that makes some sense," Kait says, slipping her hand into his. "Children get into everything."

[makesthings]

"Yes, the spell will only keep him out until he's a certain age. I just didn't quite expect to be building the entire cabinet,"

The lake is close and he walks towards the inlet but eyes the dock thoughtfully.

That gets a bit a laugh.

"Oops," she says, and then pauses, eyes flicking bewteen him and the dock. "You really want to go to the lake?"

"Inlet, lake, it all works out the same,"

He ends up at the sand and starts taking off his boots and rolls his breeches up.

"Says you." Strange person used to the cold. Still, she slips off her sandals, and then quickly unties her bodice. The dress itself will stay on - for the moment. Depends on how much swimming ends up happening.

"I miss living on the beach."

[makesthings]

"You'd like that about Belisaere, the water's right there,"

Once his breeches are as far up as they go, which is enough that the scars on the insides of his thighs are just visible, he wades into the water.

And off goes her dress. There is a brief debate, and off goes her shift as well. Underwear stays on. She wades out out a bit, and then falls to her knees to duck under the water and swim out.

Sameth watches her undress from the water and grins before swimming out after her.

Its cold and he has a brief moment of panic before years of swimming kick in.

"So, you can swim." She sounds delighted.

[makesthings]

He ends up close to her and laughs,

"Of course I can swim. Belisaere's surrounded by water."

[redefinevictory]

"Doesn't mean that you can swim," she points out. "I know people who can't."

[makesthings]

Since he's close, he kisses her,

"Well, I can and fish and boat."

[redefinevictory]

She kisses him back, just before she has to break off to keep herself afloat.

"I...can't boat."

[makesthings]

"I'll teach you, its fun,"

He wraps his arms around her to help her float and because well she's there and beautiful.

His actions get a giggle and she shoves him back. "Don't think this is going to work," she says. Treading water runs the risk of tangle legs. Which, under ohter circumstances, she has utterly no objection to. "Promise it's fun?"

[makesthings]

"Probably not,"

He moves away enough that they won't get tangled up,

"Yes, it is. Some of my best times growing up were boating with my dad, it always made him smile."

"He doesn't come here, does he?"

[makesthings]

"No, he doesn't. Only Mother and Mogget,"

He doesn't know Lirael so he doesn't know about her yet.

[redefinevictory]

Yrael? Scares the hell out of her. So she avoids that.

"And Nick. I still have to meet him," she says, moving so she's floating on the water.

[makesthings]

"Nick's different, he's someone I want you to meet not family. Though I think you'd like Dad."
